Philippines :

As of now, my country has a big problem with rice hoarding that is why they made a law against it. The thing is, one of the provinces in our country that produces the most rice is Pangasinan. Most of the hoarded rice came from there that’s why now they have a huge problem. Not that many wants to buy rice from them anymore.

People here are so gullible. They believe everything that they hear and see on television that they seem to forget to think at all. I mean, there has to be standards on how you can say that a rice sack is hoarded. Before they made the law, they should have dictated those standards early on. What kind of law would that be If they cannot distinguish the legal with the illegal?

If this continues on, more rice producing cities will run out of business because of their lack of ability to think ahead of time and anticipate what can happen and the different scenarios that may play out in the end. Lawmakers should be able to think that. But then again, we are talking about lawmakers that have been appointed into position because of who they know and not so much on what they know. In this country, it is all about the people you know that has the power. It’s about clinging and sucking up to them.

Agreed with author, the rising price of rice has been changed in the high political drama in the Philippines. The country is one of the world's largest importers of rice. Now, the hoarders are under threat from administration and the traders fiddling the price of rice may face life term in prison. Police and military are helping NGOs to sell rice to the poor at subsidized rates.

Rice is an unusual and important grain in international trade. In several countries in Asian continent, the bulk of the crop is kept at home. At present the looming food crisis is forcing the farmers and other middlemen to keep the grain in reserve and it is driving the price rise like never before. It is happening in Philippines too.

The problem is much more bigger than imagination. Filipino consumers used to pay higher prices for rice than the people living in countries where the grain is grown more efficiently. The poor people have developed the habit to eat far more rice per capita than the people belong to rich or middle class.
